Coproduction & Community Power Building

Shift guides and facilitates the process of coproduction. We work with leaders, your team, and your community to develop working agreements, set expectations, and define roles and responsibilities to best support collaboration beyond traditional power structures. Authentic coproduction means empowering people to take aligned action toward a collective goal, valuing those that have been historically and traditionally marginalized or tokenized, and centering their input and insights in decision-making processes.

Much of Shift’s coproduction efforts have been supporting our partners in taking the next step after making a formal commitment to coproduce with on-the-ground stakeholders such as parents, students, teachers, or patients. We support their efforts to consult, cultivate, and collaborate with community representatives in every step of improvement – from the  design process to building structures to share leadership across an improvement community. Getting the right folks to the table can take a lot of work, including supporting those with power to let go of control and value their team’s expertise and the lived expertise of communities. Creating clear guardrails, minimum requirements, and a 'charge' for what a community must do from the perspective of a funder can be a helpful step for aligning a community's direction with the visions of funders.
